Looking in all the wrong places

26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.” …35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”  ~John 6:26-27 & 35-40

People are looking for satisfaction. People are looking for something to fill the emptiness in their lives. All too often we look in the wrong places. Possession after possession, relationship after relationship, career change after career change and hobby after hobby, people are looking to fill a void.  People are looking to find contentment.  They are looking for something real, something that will satisfy. I remember growing up we had 4 channels on the television. Today the average American has 189 channels. Growing up we had three major brands of toothpaste. Today people have over 50 brands, with each having several options.  We are always looking for something better. In 1955 the average soda was 7 ounces. In 2017, 42 ounce cups and larger are common.  We are trying to find satisfaction. Many people have said, “If I finally have a certain amount of money in the bank, I will finally be happy.” Sadly, no one will ever find satisfaction, peace, joy or contentment looking in these places.
Thankfully Jesus teaches us a better way, a way to finally have a full life, a way to finally have contentment in our lives. It is through a relationship with Him. In these verses Jesus had just fed the 5,000 men with a handful of fish and bread. The next morning, they are coming to Him for something else to eat. They should have been seeking Him for a relationship. They had just seen a miracle in the multiplying of bread and fish, but sadly all they were interested in was finding temporary satisfaction.
 Beloved, Jesus offers us something far greater than a full belly. He offers us a relationship. He offers us peace in the world torn with strife. He offers us a relationship and the forgiveness of our sins. Best of all, He offers us eternal life.  You will never find satisfaction in your life; you will never fill that empty feeling without Jesus.
